The Christmas season is finally here! A popular way many of us celebrate this time of the year is by decorating the family home inside and out. While most of us purchase our Christmas lights, trees, wreathes and other items, there are many ways you can create your own decorations and bond as a family in the process. DIY Christmas decorations are also becoming more popular as people struggle to find unique pieces not found anywhere else. If you’re one of the people looking for DIY decoration ideas, continue reading to learn some of my favorites for this holiday season.
Popsicle Stick Snowflakes
Something as simple as a popsicle stick can be transformed into a beautiful Christmas decoration. All you need to create your own winter wonderland is some popsicle sticks, a hot glue gun and some string. Test out a few designs before you break out the glue to determine the pattern you like best. When you’ve figured it out, use a little glue to join the sticks together at all meeting points. Once it’s dried all that’s left to do is tie the string around one of the sticks and hang the snowflake anywhere you’d like.
Are you bored with traditional wreathes? Here’s one way you can do something different and stand out from the crowd. Head online or to your local craft store and purchase some small Styrofoam balls. You’ll also need to use a hot glue gun and some imagination to pull this decoration together. What you’re going to do is glue the Styrofoam balls together into a circular shape and create your own Christmas wreath. In the end you’ll be left with a one-of-a-kind wreath that others will think was made with real snowballs.
This one is easy! Grab some empty boxes from around the house and a few rolls of wrapping paper. Wrap the empty boxes like you would a gift for a friend or family member. Dress them up with a bow or ribbon and place them all around your home. This is a quick and inexpensive way to bring the joys of Christmas to every room of the house.
Hanging Ornament Frame
An empty picture frame and some leftover ornaments can be combined to create a beautiful focal point. Firstly, grab those empty frames and pop the glass out after you remove the back. Take some spray paint, preferably red, green or metallic, and give the frame a good coating. While it’s drying, gather up some extra ornaments. If they’re solid colors, use markers or paint to draw festive designs on them. Once the frame is dry, take some red or green string and hang the ornaments inside by tying the string between the ornaments and the top of the frame. Finally, rest the leaning frame against a wall and enjoy. These make great decorations for bookshelves, countertops and even tables.
Beautiful Christmas decorations don’t only come from a showroom. There are many DIY decorations you can do alone or as a family to add something extra to your space. Try one of the ideas mentioned here or just search the web for “DIY Christmas decorations” and find something that better suits you!
